Knowledge Generation and Application Lines

Research lines

01 Clinical, Epidemiological, and Translational Comprehensive study of the health-disease process through clinical cohorts, trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, integrating clinical outcomes with biological markers in chronic, autoimmune, renal, and surgical conditions. This line bridges clinical practice with the generation of translational evidence to inform decision-making. 43 pubs 02 Population Data Science Analysis of large surveillance databases and national registries through time series, spatial models, and ecological methods to identify the social, environmental, and structural determinants of health. This line quantifies inequalities, healthcare deserts, and amenable (avoidable) mortality at the population level. 6 pubs 03 Infectious Disease Epidemiology Surveillance, outbreak dynamics, and temporal analysis of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases (measles, dengue, COVID-19, respiratory viruses) and of antimicrobial resistance, including the development of Bayesian weighted-incidence syndromic combination antibiograms (WISCA) to guide empirical therapy. 13 pubs 04 Nutrition and Microbiome Study of the interaction among nutritional status, low-grade inflammation, the microbiome/biofilm, and systemic comorbidities, together with healthy lifestyles, obesity, and oral-systemic axes in the prevention and management of disease. 18 pubs 05 Molecular Biology and Biomarkers Application of molecular tools (whole-genome sequencing (WGS), gene expression profiling, cytokines, and immunoinflammatory biomarkers) to the diagnosis, epidemiological typing, and treatment of infectious and immune-mediated diseases, including the molecular determinants of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and viral pathogenesis. 6 pubs
